Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dr. Harold C. Sundean passed away Saturday morning, March 16, 2013, at 86 years of age. A private, family service was held at Santa Cruz Memorial Chapel, Saturday afternoon, March 23, with a military honor guard, as he had served in the US Army as a medic during WW II. Dr. Sundean was born in Santa Cruz, CA, on July 21, 1926, the son of Harald A. and Edith Sundean. The family then moved to Crookston, MN, and established a successful bee business during the depression. The Sundeans often wintered in Santa Cruz, eventually returning to the area permanently. Harold C. attended Lodi Academy, but was drafted into the army before he graduated. After his discharge from military service, he was accepted to Pacific Union College. He then attended Loma Linda University, where he earned his MD. He later became a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice. Harold married Marjorie Hauselt, also of Santa Cruz, in 1951. After completing his residency, the couple returned to Santa Cruz in 1959, where Dr. Sundean established his practice, and together they raised a family of four children. Harold and Marjorie celebrated their 61st anniversary with their family last July. During his 35 years as a family physician, Dr. Sundean delivered 1,999 babies, practiced anesthesia, obstetrics and gynecology, performed, and assisted with, numerous surgeries, served as Medical Director for Community Hospital of Santa Cruz for several years, and was a consulting physician for the Abundant Living Series for Loma Linda University. He retired from his practice in 1994. Dr. Sundean was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carole, and is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his children, Connie, Marvin, Mel and Julie; and his grandsons, Timothy and Jason. In all that he accomplished, Dr. Sundean put his love for God, his family and the care of his patients first. Harold was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, physician and friend, and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
