My niece, Victoria Lynn Knox was an exquisite member of our family when she lived with us during her earliest childhood years, and shortly after the birth of her beloved younger sister, Kalisa, to whom she was devoted throughout her life. When, too soon, she left with her family, as my brother, David traveled to work at Los Alamos, New Mexico, we lost contact, temporarily, but my parents and I deeply missed her ethereal presence. Victoria and I met again several years later, as my brother, David earned his PhD at Stanford University, and I visited Victoria and her family in Palo Alto. Victoria and I later shared our deeply personal memories of that time, and though we were not in direct contact for many decades, my parents and Victoria exchanged loving communications throughout those long years, during which Victoria Lynn matured into a sensitive, magnificent, wise woman. My very caring mother, Henriette, bought government bonds for Victoria and Kalisa, which Kalisa informed me, were cashed in, upon maturation, to buy a horse!!!! Victoria and her sister, Kalisa had a loving relationship which both cherished. When recently Victoria Lynn and I had numerous extremely important telephone conversations, I was delighted and profoundly moved to discover our trust and love had endured throughout nearly half a century! The loss of this splendid woman is heartbreaking for all of us, her sister, Kalisa, her brother-in-law Farhad, and her husband Jack, and David, who was her step-father. And I share their heartbreak, intensely. Victoria Lynn was a special woman whom all of us adored. She will never be forgotten.

Veekay was one of the very best people I have ever known. We first met in the early 2000s, but we didn't really get to know each other well until more than a decade later. Once we transitioned from acquaintances to friends, though, our relationship quickly deepened into something that startled both of us. She was the sister I never had, and I became, in effect, a second brother to her.
From then on we saw each fairly regularly and spoke on the phone a lot, getting closer and closer. We were basically the same age, and shared a lot of favorite works, beliefs, and social and cultural milestones. When my adopted infant daughter Brigid joined our family in 2017, Veekay was a loving (if physically distant) godmother...and when Brigid's terminal illness became apparent, Veekay was always there when I needed to call and connect with someone who understood and cared, in order to find strength to help me cope. Brigid died in 2023, just six years old. Now that Veekay has gone through the veil as well, I like to imagine that somewhere they are laughing and playing together, sharing their mutual gift for joy.
God bless you, Victoria. I miss you. And hope I see you again someday, somewhere, somehow.

Q: What will you never forget about Victoria?
A: Whenever I had the opportunity to get together with Victoria I remember nothing but laughing. Her quirky sense of humor always left a lasting impression for me.
I will surely miss this dear cousin of mine and know I will find her now in the simple things like a hummingbirds chirp or a butterfly's flutter.
All my love!

Making a tribute to my elder sister Victoria - I could write a novel. She was with me from the day I was born. We rode horses together, named our cats, made felt and styrofoam mice together, and later in life we liked to sit and chat and laugh at our long-honed media-related references and family jokes.
Even when she lived in another town or state and I later lived in another country, she was always there, a comfortable reassuring presence who never forgot a birthday.
Since I returned to California 23 years ago, she was my steady rock that I could always rely on.
Her loss is very recent, so I’m constantly realizing that she is no longer physically present. I have the impulse to text her to ask for advice or to share something I’m doing, share an anecdote, send her a photo or a funny meme. I want to talk to her about a new author I’ve found, recommend a book or a website, or send her a particularly tricky online jigsaw puzzle. I need to continually remind myself that my life has changed forever now that she is gone.
My sister was a quiet bright light in this world; now we must adjust to earthly life without her. Victoria we love you and miss you.
