We are so sad to hear of the loss of Nelda. She was such an amazing and sweet woman of God. I always loved to hear her play the organ especially as a child and worship alongside. Thank you, Pastor Barton,
so much for showing our family such loving concern and truly showing Jesus to my grandma Bonnie June Cunningham, as well as to my aunts Penny and Mary and uncle Eddie and mom Jennifer (especially in her end days, how sweet you were to her.)

Still trying to figure out how to do this high tech condolences due to COVID closures into its 9th month...will come back some time to post photos, snap shots of "fun times" with the Pastor and his wife, activities outside of Church music, when Nelda was not playing the "giant organ" or the piano raised up on stage from the basement for the Church services or special Sunday evenings hymn sings led by Pastor Paul Barton, 2nd hand of Pastor Roy Kraft, the twin brother of Pastor Ralph Kraft.....more to come....since first "met" or "attracted to" Nelda's piano's music at one of the Church services at the 7th Ave. Twin Lakes Baptist Church in 1972 or so when we, the CHENG FAMILY of six, were "New in Town" since September of 1971....

Dearest Paul,
Oh how many times You have been at the side of family who have said goodby to a loved one.
My the Lord be with you now in an immeasurable way as you have had to (temporarily) say
goodbye to your dear Nelda. What an example to hundreds of people both of you have been,
of our Lord Jesus Christ! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!
I had the privilege of growing up under your leadership and I thank God for that blessing always.
Remembering the weekly choir rehearsals, choir tours, performances, and Christian living direction
both of you gave, has impacted my life deeply. You both have always been so very open and honest
which reinforced the real life reality of the following our Savior, Jesus.
May you rest in Him as Heaven becomes a step closer with each precious loss in the ol' world.
Love forever and always, Gary & Colleen (the Pete's)
PS. Listening to Nelda's Tribute CD, and the Harbor Masters, and a CD of You & Jim Bergthold!
Indelible memories! Agan, Thank you!
Remember Pastor Kraft would often say Heaven would be filled with the piano playing of Nelda!

Pastor Paul,
We love you. Both you and Nelda are such examples of Godly people. For as long as my mind can recall, both of you have set Godly examples of Christ’s love to the people of Santa Cruz. Be it by a gentle hand on the shoulder, an encouraging word or even a simple smile which always lit up a room, you both are a mirror of Christ to us. The time each of you spent on your knees praying through hardships or baring burdens alongside others gives God immeasurable glory. I believe, as it is written in John 4:19 that “we love because Christ first loved us” is a motto you live so intentionally by — it’s absolutely foundational to who you both are as children of God. I love that!
I recall these truths because, I like so many others, have benefited from this love and care. This model you and Nelda have set has in a large part shaped me and has certainly guided me on how to dedicate my entire life to God as well — I thank you both for that.
Pastor, we all love you. Like you have done for us so many times before, we stand with you in this hardship. But though we miss Nelda we hold close to the truth that life here on earth is not the end but rather a majestic beginning to something bigger, more incredible. Our God is beyond measure and if this is true, I cannot fathom the incredible reality Nelda is experiencing playing her piano for the multitudes for those gone before us. Though this experience may feel overwhelming what a special thought to dwell upon. We all love you Pastor. We stand with you, we pray for you and most if all, we thank God for you and Nelda and what you both mean to us.
With all love The Orlando’s

It was our great honor to know Nelda, as a child I would love to go up to the stage at Twin Lakes Church as she played the Organ. She was always so attentive to my questions about music, and was so caring, which helped shaped my career in music. Her passionate soulful playing was so natural for her, I so admired it. Nelda was a shining example of God's grace each day. Stephanie and I were so blessed to have Nelda play for our wedding and remember it fondly. Nelda was a treasure and a gift from God, may you find peace knowing that she continues to touch people to this day. We will continue to pray for your family knowing that God will comfort you.

Hi Craig: Just to let you know that I, or rather the CHENG family get to know Nelda and Pastor Paul Barton of Twin Lakes Baptist Church on 7th Ave. first through Irene and Frank Caudwell(sp?) and then I got to make my "on stage performances", played the flute in the Church's Orchestra , under the baton of Pastor Paul Barton, at the brand new Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Aptos in 1974(?) or so, through the connection of Harbor High School's Beginning Band teacher at the time, Mr. "Bob" Simmons.
