Obituary of Charles (Charlie) Robert Hensley

Please share a memory of Charles (Charlie) to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles (Charlie) Robert Hensley, AKA, "The Legend", was born to parents Robert and Charlotte (Sloan) Hensley. He passed away on November 5th, surrounded by loved ones. Charlie grew up in Ben Lomond and attended San Lorenzo Valley through highschool, where he was a star athlete in any sport he chose. He went on to share his love of sports through coaching baseball and softball teams for more than 2 decades. Some deep connections were made between Charlie and those he coached...you know who you are. Charlie had a rewarding career working for the Santa Cruz County Parks and Recreation Department until retiring in 2015. He also spent many years volunteering at Boulder Creek and Ben Lomond Fire Departments where he made some lifelong friendships...you know who you are. Charlie was an outdoor mans man. he had many interests, including, fishing, riding mules and hunting. He had a tight community of friends in each of these activities...you know who you are. He was so happy to achieve his goal of buying his dream home in the mountains of northern California. Unfortunately, he was soon diagnosed with cancer, for the second time. As his health waned, he chose to sell his dream home and buy a house next to his daughter in Oakhurst, California, so that she could help him out. Sadly, he was never well enough to move out of her house and into his new home. Charlie was so much more than "The Legend" to so many. He was larger than life and his embellished stories and jokes will never be forgotten. He was very fortunate to have many friends who worked tirelessly to give him the quality of life and the time that he needed with those he loved...you know who you are. On the morning of November 5th, a bright light went out. Charlie passed that day, but "The Legend" will live on forever. Charlie is survived by his parents, Bob and Char Hensley, his daughters, Alicia and Britney Hensley and his son-in-law Bob Devonshire, his grandsons, Dominic, Joshua, Blake, Beau and Brody, his brother Bob and sister-in-law Sandra, along with many nephews and a niece. He is also survived by many loving friends...you know who you are. A celebration of life will be held at Quail Hollow Park on May 27, 2023, at 12:00pm. Britney and Alicia Hensley will be hosting the Celebration of Life for their Dad....THE LEGEND... Charlie Hensley. There will be food, a slide show and an open mic for any and all to share their stories of Charlie. He touched so many lives near and far, and we want to show him just how amazing he was and always will be.
