Man-Wai Wong, age 73, passed away peacefully at home in Santa Cruz, California, on March 13, 2026.

She was born on January 1, 1953, in Guangzhou, China, to Yin Fai Wan and Sau Tai Leung. In 1976, she came to the United States, where she married Clifford Wong, and together they built a life and family. She spent most of her years in Santa Cruz, where the majority of her family continues to live.

Wai was the beloved wife of Clifford Wong, married for 49 years, and a devoted mother to Jerelyn Wong (Peter Lee), Grant Wong (Irene Wong), and Chylene Wong (John Mai). She was a proud grandmother to Brianna Lee, Mason Lee, Brandon Wong, Nolan Wong, Olivia Wong, and Ari Mai.

She is also survived by her brothers Tin Lun Wan, Tin Keung Wan, and Leong Wan, along with many other nieces, nephews, extended family, and her beloved dog, Gus. She was preceded in death by her brother Tin Cheung Wan (November 7, 2023).

Wai worked at the Wrigley’s gum factory in Santa Cruz in her early years and was a skilled seamstress throughout her life. She also worked as a baker and cake decorator at Nob Hill, where her attention to detail and care were reflected in everything she created.

She was known for her incredible cooking and for the way she brought people together through food. Family gatherings and celebrations were always centered around her meals, and no one ever left her home hungry. She took care of everyone around her, not just her own children, but also extended family and friends. In many ways, she was a mother to all.

She enjoyed long walks, spending time outdoors, walking her dogs, and staying active at the gym. She was well known by her neighbors as a familiar and friendly presence in her community. More than anything, she will be remembered for her generosity, her strength, and the constant care she gave to those around her.

A service will be held at Santa Cruz Memorial Oakwood Crystal Chapel. Please contact the family if details are needed.
