Flora was born in Manila, Philippines, the beloved daughter of Eugenio Roman and Fabiana Rueda, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the eldest daughter of seven siblings. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Juanito, Joe, Sagrada, and Salvador. She is survived by her sisters, Asunción, Victoria, and several nieces and nephews.
Flora shared more than 30 years of marriage with her husband, Benny, until his passing in 1996. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Josephine (Darryl), who was the center of her life and greatest pride.
By trade, Flora was a talented seamstress whose skill and care touched many lives. She worked at Dominican Hospital, where she lovingly sewed surgical gowns for premature babies while also assisting in the hospital’s laundry department. Her gift for sewing extended beyond her profession — she proudly created garments for two weddings, a reflection of both her craftsmanship and the love she poured into everything she made.
Upon immigrating to the United States, Flora settled in Santa Cruz, which became her home from the very beginning as she built her life, family, and community there. She enjoyed watching the community grow and cherished the many memories created there. She loved hosting visiting family, especially trips to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and she delighted in regular visits to local farmers markets, where she carefully selected the freshest vegetables to prepare meals for those she loved.
Flora found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to travel, play bingo, and enjoyed occasional outings to the casino, where she happily spent time playing the slot machines whenever she could.
Flora will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, her love of family, and the warmth she shared with everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, generosity, and love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
