Lori Ann (Holstad) Barone passed away peacefully at her home in Scotts Valley on January 16, 2026, at the age of 73 after a courageous year-and-a-half battle with metastatic stage 4 breast cancer. We take comfort knowing she is in heaven now.
Born on January 6, 1953, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lori was raised with strong Midwestern values that she carried throughout her life. At 18, she moved to Colorado and later settled in California, where she made her home in the Santa Cruz Mountains for more than 40 years.
Lori worked in a variety of roles over the years, including as a school bus driver and a dance fitness instructor. Most meaningful to her were her years working in the medical field, where she found deep fulfillment in caring for patients and helping others feel better. She also volunteered with a homeless ministry and faithfully served as a greeter at her church, welcoming many with warmth and kindness.
On March 3, 2002, Lori married her husband, Robert E. Barone, in a ceremony aboard a cruise ship in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together they shared a love of music and faith, writing and playing classic rock and Christian music side by side. Lori enjoyed playing piano, bass guitar, and harmonica, as well as sewing, dancing, and writing.
Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life and sustained her through life's trials. She would want to be remembered first and foremost for her love of Jesus and her devotion to family.
Lori is survived by her husband, Robert E. Barone; her sons, Robert and Justin Mountain; and her grandchildren, Makayla, Kameron, and Bryce Mountain. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Beverly Holstad, and her brother, Leonard Holstad.
Lori's favorite food was popcorn-so the next time you enjoy a bowl, think of Lori.
A memorial service celebrating Lori's life will be held at Twin Lakes Church on March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
