Beverly Ruth deBarrios (Soper), age 77, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in Santa Cruz, California. She was born on March 16, 1948, in Springfield, Missouri, and made Santa Cruz her home for more than 55 years.

Beverly was a woman of deep faith, generous spirit, and steady devotion to those she loved. She graduated from Monte Vista High School and attended Southern California College. For more than 33 years, she worked faithfully at Safeway Grocery Store, where her strong work ethic and kind nature were evident to all who knew her.

Her faith guided every part of her life. Beverly joyfully served as a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years, touching countless lives through her teaching, encouragement, and example. She was actively involved in many Bible studies and cherished the fellowship of her beloved “Many Memories” friends group. Beverly also loved to travel, always finding joy in new places and shared experiences.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua Kirk Soper and Ruth Soper; her stepmother, Betty Soper; her grandson, Tyler Worsham; her son-in-law, Tim Worsham; her stepchildren, James deBarrios and Sandra deBarrios; and her niece, Laura Salley.

Beverly is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Jim deBarrios; her daughter, Janice Worsham (Elrod); and her cherished grandchildren, Brady and Hadley Worsham. She is also survived by her sisters, Janice Smith (Jerry), Anita Salley (Blaine), Pam Hutton (Scott), and Andrea Lema (Tony), along with many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.

A memorial service celebrating Beverly’s life will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 10:30 a.m. at High Street Community Church, 850 High Street, Santa Cruz, California.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverly’s memory to High Street Community Church or the March of Dimes.

Beverly will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her servant’s heart, and the warmth she shared so freely with family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
