Obituary of Doris B. Dunphy
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris Bonturi Dunphy passed away on December 19, 2024. She was born on April 13, 1929, in Hollister, California to parents Fausto and Amelia Bonturi. She spent her childhood on the ranch where her father had constructed their family home.
After graduating from Hollister High School, she left her family home at the age of eighteen to begin her own life. Doris moved in with her sisters and began working at Pacific Bell in Palo Alto. While working at Pacific Bell, she met her husband Rod, they were later married in Los Altos. Rod and Doris would go on to raise their own family in Monta Vista for the next twenty years. After this, she would move to Sunnyvale and reside there for over forty years.
Doris began her career as a communications and billing agent at Lockheed Martin, she dutifully worked there for 20 years before retiring.
In her free time, Doris was an avid dancer, and a talented one too at that. For years she would frequent her local YMCA and hone her passion for dancing. Doris also loved playing card games with her friends as well as working on her various craft projects. She was quite talented at needlework, knitting, and crocheting. Outside of dancing and crafts, Doris has been a huge fan of the San Francisco Giants. Since the 80’s, she would watch every game of the season from March to October. During the quieter moments of her life, Doris’ favorite pastime was feeding the hummingbirds near her home, marveling at the delicate nests they created by her window.
Doris was always an active member of her community. She was part of a social club based in the local park and frequently attended various events at the park. She was a member of a local stitchery group who would meet weekly to discuss their crafts. She loved meeting with her card game club as well. Despite a deep appreciation for home, Doris adored travelling with her friends, her trip to Florence to meet her relatives was one of the most notable of these journeys.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Fausto & Amelia Bonturi, as well as her parents in law, Robert & Beatrice Dunphy. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Holtze. Her sons, Randy & Donald Dunphy. Her grandchildren Denise and Jesse Dresbach, Sabrina Bullock, as well as Ryan & Megan Dunphy. Finally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren Cohen & Harper Bullock, as well as Connor Dunphy.
