James, better known as Jim, was a father, veteran, businessman and friend to many. He peacefully passed away at the age of 94 in San Diego, CA. Jim was born on June 26, 1930, in Santa Cruz to parents Dr. Mahlon & Blanche McPherson. He graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1948 then attended San Jose State University.
During the Korean War, Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy, completing boot camp in San Diego and serving at Pearl Harbor. Early in his life, he worked as a disc jockey at KDON, sharing his love of music with the local community.
Jim and his late brother, Don, co-founded Sentinel Printers, building a respected business that served the community for many years. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, singing and playing the ukelele, which often added a spark to family gatherings.
Jim is survived by his son Scott Vomvolakis and his wife Yvonne; daughter Diana Vomvolakis-Boeh, her husband Mark and their son Blake; his daughter Julie Famer, her husband Jack and their children Mitchell and Marcus; his daughter Heidi McPherson; his sisters Cloy Codiga and Muriel Prolo; and extended family and friends. His distinctive sense of humor and laughter will be remembered by those close to him.
