Obituary of Helen Roberta Bowman

Helen Roberta Nutter Bowman passed away July 7th just seven hours short of her 102 Birthday. She was born on July 8, 1914 in the family home on the corner of what is now Capitola Avenue and Hill Street. She was a descendant of the Soquel area pioneer families Ryder and Kirby. Her father, Olley Richard Nutter was a respected orchardist and operated the Nutter & Russell Apple Dryer & Vinegar Plant while her mother was active in the business and local civic organizations. She attended Soquel Grammar School and Santa Cruz High School, graduating in the class of 1932. She resided in Torrance, CA with her husband were she employed in the Dental industry. Upon her return to the Santa Cruz area she became a respected caregiver. She is survived by her nephew Richard Nutter and numerous nephews and nieces including her grandniece Lisa Nelson. .Additionally she leaves many close friends and her beloved cockatoo "Peaches". She was also preceded in death by her husband Philip Bowman, sister Marion Nutter Ross and brother Burton Northup Nutter. A private memorial will be held later and she will be interred in the family plot at the Soquel Cemetery.
