Obituary of Kathy Jo Emmert

Please share a memory of Kathy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathy Emmert passed away on June 26th after a long illness. She was very loved and will be dearly missed. Kathy brightened and touched many lives during her 67 years. A memorial and celebration of her life will be held on Thursday July 7th, at 1pm, at Santa Cruz Memorial Oakwood Chapel on Paul Sweet Rd. Kathy was born on January 29, 1949 in Abilene, Texas to John and Kathryn Trautner. She moved permanently to Santa Cruz at age 15 to live with her loving father. Kathy went on to become a real estate broker, which was her passion for over 25 years. She was a loved and respected colleague to many. She had a true passion for her work as it allowed her to connect with people and help others. She was married to Jack Emmert for 22 years, and after divorcing they remained the closest of friends until his passing in 2008. Kathy was a remarkably dedicated and extraordinarily loving mother to her two sons Bill and David Emmert. Kathy was a fun-loving, kind-hearted person with an adventurous spirit. She knew how to live in the moment, radiated joy and optimism, and achieved whatever she set her mind to. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends most of all. She also especially loved going on walks, out to the movies, volunteering, traveling, and of course, chocolate! She was a devoted Christian, was actively involved in church, and spent many years attending Santa Cruz Bible Church. She cherished her yearly trips with "The Houseboat Girls" who went on many adventures on and off land. She is survived by her two sons Bill and David Emmert, daughter-in-law Melissa, and grandson Evan. She is also survived by her youngest brother Del Hickson, and several other loving family members and friends. There are many lifelong friends and beloved family who enriched her life that have predeceased her. Kathy will remain in our thoughts and hearts, and brought such joy to our lives. Thank you Kathy for your incredible spirit, love, courage, and kindness.
