We were so sad to read of Danny's passing. Shocked, too. Danny was so loved by your loving and caring family. He was very talented and loved his family dearly. We remember him as a fun loving, sensitive, funny, caring brother to Bonnie and Pete.
That's how we came to know him...through his family members.
Deepest sympathies to one and all at this time. HUGS.

I met Dan when I began working at the PCP (Pacific Coast Producers) cannery on Seabright in 1974. I was a young UCSC student and Dan was a little older, a Vietnam-era vet, and my supervisor the first two seasons I worked there. Dan was kind, competent and good-humored. I think not long after that he began working as a forklift mechanic at the cannery. I didn't know Danny much outside of work, but I was struck by his many and diverse interests and abilities--surfing, art, karate, mechanics. Dan was very good with people. It has been about forty years and I have always remembered what a buoyant, radiant, lively person Dan was.
My condolences for all of you who are his family and close friends.

I met Danny at Cabrillo as well. We were both on the Cross Country Team. For a Towhead, he didn't whine or complain like the rest of us. The Vets returning from action were quieter bunch too. The Team trained running in the woods up to the Old Mill (now called Nisene Marks Park) & then back down to Rio Beach & back to Cabrillo. We played a form of Leap Frog as part of our training. The rules of play were: all run in single file. The guy in the back of the pack was to sprint up to become the new lead runner. The only problem was Danny. He kept on sprinting and didn't slow down. Which meant we all had to sprint just to keep up with that crazy blonde surfer with the BIG SMILE from the Westside. After practice, our lungs & throats ached from breathing so hard. Side aches in your stomach were so painful you felt like your appendix burst. We all had them but Danny just shrugged them off & said, "Let's go surfin'." Those were good times & Danny was a great guy. -Robin Egbert

My sincerest condolences to Dan's family. I remember Dan from Santa Cruz High School. He was one yr. older than me, graduating in 1965 while I graduated in 1966. We were, however, in Art Class together, with Ross Jones as Art Teacher. Even back then one could tell Dan had a lot of artistic talent. I remember him as being kind, sweet, kind of quiet with a lot of talent. Since he was also a surfer and our art teacher Ross Jones was as well, they became good friends sharing both art and surfing. I've always lived on W. Side Santa Cruz and spent my high school Summer vacation yrs. at Cowell's Beach, which is just a few blocks from Lighthouse Ave. where Dan and his family lived; my sister lives on and has lived on Lighthouse Ave. for 40 yrs. Bumping into Dan last yr. after all the intervening yrs. since high school, I still found him very kind, polite, sweet, and after viewing a lot of his current art work I certainly found his artistic talent had enriched over the yrs. The world has lost a sweet, kind, talented human being. My prayers go out to his dear wife Jan, and family. May you all be given strength to make it through these sad days, and remember all the GOOD times with Dan, forever.

My condolences to Danny's family..... I knew him in the 60's and 70's at the beach...surfing, laughing, having fun.. Danny was a gentle happy surfer who was different than most of the young surfers in those days... he really enjoyed surfing, his friends, and just the day.... he was secure with himself and didn't need to prove something like most of us.... he was truly a happy person, a genuine person.... a good person..... until we meet again...ALOHA DANNY...
