Obituary of James Edward Main
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
A joyous reunion is being held in Heaven and will continue as James Edward Main leaves this earth to reunite with his beloved wife, Laurel. God has promised, "Absent from the body, present with the Lord," and we know our father, grampa and great-grampa is set free from the constraints that held him captive and separate from his loved ones for so many years.
James Edward Main, born January 5, 1919, in Salinas, California, passed into eternity on December 17, 2015, in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Prior to his move to Illinois in 2008, James and his beloved wife, (Muriel) Laurel, were lifelong residents of Santa Cruz, California. He and Laurel were married for 67 years and were members of Twin Lakes Church for more than 60 years until her passing in 2009.
James served in World War II in the Aleutian Islands as a Heavy Machine Gunner and was honorably discharged in July 1945. As one of the Greatest Generation, James lived an exemplary life of honor and service to his church, singing in the choir and ushering, and in his community as a volunteer with Grey Bears, a food bank-giveaway program.
James was preceded in death by his wife Laurel, son Richard Main, daughter Denise Taul and great-grandson Zachary Stevens. He leaves behind his daughter Janice Stevens, and her children, Michelle, Monica and Melanie; Denise's children, Kristi and Michael, and Richard's daughter, Sophia; 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music ministry of Twin Lakes Church or to charity or your choice. A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held at Santa Cruz Memorial - Mission Chapel on December 28, 2015 at 1 PM.
