Obituary of Robert Michael Rosengard

Our beloved Bob Rosengard passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the age of 70. He was born in Boise, Idaho to Sidney Karol and Jeanne Barbara Samuels. He moved to California and grew up in Los Angeles County. His mother divorced and remarried and he was adopted by his step father, Milton Harry Rosengard in 1952. He attended Taft High School in Woodland Hills, where he became inspired to become a teacher. He graduated from high school in 1962, moved to the San Jose State campus for his teacher education, then Santa Cruz County to begin his teaching career. He spent all but one year of his career at Aptos High School as a Social Studies Teacher. Bob was a treasured teacher, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend. He touched and inspired many lives and leaves behind a wonderful legacy. Even though he retired from Aptos High School in 2006, after 38 wonderful years of teaching, he could still be found substituting there as often as he was able. After he retired, he became an avid Santa Cruz county milk bottle and souvenir collector. He received his first bottle (an Elkhorn Slough one) from his long time friend, Bob Hestand. Through this hobby, he made many new and life-long friends. He also was a runner for many years with friends, especially his dearest friend, Bob Goeckermann. After they stopped running they became dedicated walkers. In addition, he, his wife and their family traveled many places all over the globe and his home is filled with love and memories from those adventures. Bob leaves behind his very loving wife, Pam, his blessed and loved daughter, Kristen, son-in-law Perry, beloved grandchildren; Chelsie, Zach and Tucker and his first great-grandchild, Sophia Marie, who he hadn't even yet held in his arms. He is also survived by his 96 year old father-in-law, George, greatly loved sisters; Joi, Lynne and Donna, nephews; Michael and Sam, plus his many friends, who are grieving along with us all. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday December 4 at Temple Beth El Jewish Community Center in Aptos, CA. All friends and loved ones are invited to attend. This will be followed by a social gathering at the temple. This will be a time to remember him, talk, eat and hug one another. Donations can be made, in his memory, online at www.aptoshs.net.
