Obituary of Claren Marie Petersen

Claren Marie (Lucini) Petersen lost her battle with cancer on October 18th. She was 73. Claren was born in Angels Camp, California on December 2, 1941 to Rose and Clarence Lucini. After her father's death, her mother married Howard Myers and eventually moved to Santa Cruz, CA. She attended Santa Cruz High School (1959) and Cabrillo College. She worked at Wrigley's her entire career, starting as a tour guide. Before retiring, when the Santa Cruz plant closed, she was the Western United States Shipping Coordinator. She had the honor of being the last person to lock the doors of the factory in Santa Cruz. After retiring, she worked part time at De Laveaga Golf Course. Claren was involved with many organizations. She was on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club, member of the Santa Cruz Corvette Club, member of the Emblem Club, and part owner of Fortner Lucini Motor Sports. She loved watching motor races, playing golf, fishing and spending time at her vacation home in Brookings, Oregon. Claren was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Rose Myers, her brother Victer Lucini, former husbands Gerry Deel and Rick Petersen, and step-daughter Rhonda Deel. Among the people who will cherish her memory are her partner, Tim Fortner, brothers Dan and David Myers, their wives Louanne and Cindi Myers. Also step-children Wanda Braschi, and Michael Deel. She was close to nieces and nephews Ben Myers, Jeff Myers, Andrew Myers, Laine Bode, and Oceana Lucini. A Celebration of Life will be held at DeLaveaga Golf Course in Santa Cruz on Nov. 7th at 1:00. Donations appreciated in lieu of flowers to SPCA of Santa Cruz County.
