Obituary of Velma Jane Robertson

Velma J. Robertson, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 9. Velma was 91 years old. Velma was born January 1924 in Kansas to Stella and Elmer Sharp. Velma moved to California in 1935 with her parents and her brother, Elmer, Jr. graduating from San Jose High School and marrying Clarence (Jack) Robertson in 1942. Velma was a wife, homemaker, foster parent and in her later years worked at Mayfair Packing in the Quality Control Department until her retirement. Velma and Jack built a second home in the Sierras and enjoyed many trips to their cabin with family and friends tobogganing, swimming, fishing, skiing, playing pinochle and board games particularly Aggravation. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, entertaining, ceramics, ancestry research and filming family vacations, weddings, children and grandchildren. Velma enjoyed the activities and friendships she made at the Senior Center in Scotts Valley and at the Cabrillo Stroke Center. Velma is survived by her five children Cheryl (Ron) Williams, Terry (Chris) Robertson, Gregory (Debbie) Robertson, Jack (Charmaine) Robertson and Richard (Mary Ann) Robertson. Velma leaves behind her loving grandchildren Rhonda, Julie, Theresa, Travis, Kim, Nicole, Jeremy, Rebekah, Laurie and Tara and 12 great-grandchildren. Velma is proceeded in death by our father Clarence (Jack) Robertson in 1993. Services will be held at Santa Cruz Memorial Chapel, 1927 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz, California Friday, September 18, 2015 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Del Mar Care Center www.delmarcaregiver.org or Cabrillo College Stroke and Disability Learning Center www.cabrillo.edu/academics/strokecenter. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Norma Guzman, Kim Clark, Maple House II and Santa Cruz Hospice for their loving care and support of our dear mother during her time of need.
