Betty's passing takes my breath away. I'm so sorry we've lost her. Back in the 80's and 90's, Betty and I were fellow "techie teachers" in the Pajaro Valley School District. Betty worked tirelessly to build an extraordinary computer lab and technology program at Lakeview Middle School for the students she loved so much. She continued working, giving her all, until just one semester before the end. I am in awe of her vision, courage, and dedication. Thank you, Betty. Your work and your love will live on. You'll always be remembered by the many whose lives you've touched.

Hearing of Betty's passing just tears my heart apart. Betty was a dear person and friend to us all. I met Betty 16 years ago when I joined Lakeview Middle School. Right away, we both had something in common. MUSIC! Good Old Rock And Roll! I remember on a couple of occasions I had extra Eagles concert tickets. We both loved the Eagles. On another occasion it was Elton John. She was so excited to get them. Every-so-often, Betty would ask me, "Hey, seen any good concerts lately?" Betty smiling so greatly made me smile too. She will be missed. I send all my sympathy and prayers to husband Jim, family, and friends.
God Bless You Betty, Tracy Palmerin

I remember meeting Betty at a USD crew parent dinner after a race. Michelle was my daughter's Big Sister on the team & she embraced me & my husband all evening with great conversation & laughter. She loved her kids & was so proud of them! I looked forward to seeing her at the crew events & her smile lit up the place! Her laugh was contagious as I remember laughing a lot with her & our other Mom friends... I will miss her & know that her smile is helping light the stars up at night! XO

So sorry to hear about Betty. After I retired from teaching, I frequently subbed for Betty at Lakeview. She was the only teacher that I would sub for because her classes were so organized and the kids were well behaved. She taught them so much about computer programs in a short amount of time. Betty was a warm and caring person...proud of her family..and truly a good person. She definitely made her mark in this world and I'm truly saddened by her passing.

I worked with Betty for almost twenty years. Her passion, hopefulness, and creativity stand out the most in my memory. She was experimenting and discovering ways to integrate technology in the classroom back in the nineties, long before it became so ubiquitous. In this sense, she was a true visionary in the field of education. My thoughts and prayers go out to her children and her family.

I am so sad to hear of Betty's passing. She showed courage and fought her illness to the end and kept a positive attitude even in the most trying situations. I taught music and art for 5 years at Lakeview and Betty was my support system. She willingly spent extra time with me, sharing ideas, solving problems and showing me the many technology hurdles a new teacher has to get over in order to run a smooth classroom.
Betty was happy to loan me an extra set of stereo speakers for my classroom and was always sharing ideas for music and art technology that she thought the students would enjoy. She also knew how to keep a calm head when there were difficulties in the classroom and I often went to her for guidance in those early years. She was very supportive of the arts and we had many wonderful brain storming sessions.
My heart goes out to her family and dearest friends, she will not be forgotten. The students loved her.
Warmly,
Stephanie Gelman

Betty and I taught together at Lakeview Middle School where I was the Art teacher for ten years. When I first arrived at Lakeview Betty took me under her wing and was there for support, encouragement and questions. She always took the time to be available to me and to her students. She offered guidance and was a mentor for many students who were having difficulties at home or in school.
My heart goes out to her family of whom she was very proud and spoke of often.
With love,
Diane Koenig

I first met Betty when I worked at Lakeview's after school program, 2006-2010. I was a nobody, there for only a couple of hours a day, but she was friendly and kind to me. She helped me with computer enrichment classes and made me feel welcome and important. When I started teaching there in the fall 2014, she was the same--always helpful, upbeat, kind. I could tell she was highly respected and appreciated by teachers and loved by students. I learned a lot from watching her, even though it was only for one semester. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing and I'm praying for comfort for her family in their deep loss of a very wonderful person.

I worked in the office at Lakeview. Betty had a beautiful soul and a giving personality. Always putting herself first. She led the staff and students every year at Halloween for the "Thriller" dance and started the "birthday club" where every staff member got a cupcake for their birthday. She even adopted two stray cats I rescued from me.
She will live on in the minds and hearts of thousands of former students.
My thoughts and prayers to the family.
