Ellen Norah Viscount Aloi, 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, September 1, 2022 after a stroke. Ellen was born in New York, NY and grew up in the Bronx where she attended St. Ursula Academy High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from St. John’s University. She taught at Grace-New Haven School of Nursing and served as head nurse at Grace-New Haven Community Hospital. She also worked for public health departments in New York and Florida. Throughout her 55-year career as a nurse, she worked as a school nurse, the nurse epidemiologist at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL, and as a private duty nurse later in her career. Ellen was dedicated to community service through the parishes she attended at St Francis of Assisi in Florida, Shrine of St Joseph, Holy Cross Catholic Church, and Our Lady Star of the Sea. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, sewing, and sailing. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Aloi; parents, Edward Viscount and Ellen Mackey; brother, Edward Viscount; and nephew Edward Viscount. Ellen leaves behind her four children Matthew (Gigi) Aloi, Edward (Alison) Aloi, Thomas (Elena) Aloi, and Mary Jo Aloi; seven grandchildren Kristen (Richard) Aloi, Joseph (Kathleen) Aloi, Mark Aloi, John Joseph Aloi, Jane Aloi, Mattea Jones, and Ada Jones; a great-grandson, Bennett Duong; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea located at 515 Frederick Street, Santa Cruz on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 1:00pm.
